Fuctionalities are pretty similar for all programs: basically you can decompress a file simply by right-clicking it and by choosing the destination folder. This appears to be a normal folder on your computer, but in fact, you are within a single zipped file. Single-click the file(s) and/or folder(s) you want to unzip. If you want to select all files and folders (even if there is only one) in the.zip file, press Ctrl-A on your keyboard: Notice that the files are now selected. You can double-click the zipped folder, and all the files and folders will be shown. Locate the zipped folder you want to extract. The default location is normally in your 'Downloads Folder', but this can be different for everyone, depending on how you have your computer set up. To unzip all contents of the folder, right click once on the folder. You will see a side menu pop up, from here left click once on 'Extract All'.

How do you compress and extract files and folders in your computer? Do you complete them by use of the compression tool and decompression software which are downloaded and installed by yourself? In fact, in Windows computer, there are built-in compression and decompression functions which, in many cases, can be applied to achieve the same aim. Samsung app macbook. You can choose one of three ways to unzip an archive (a compressedfile or set of files) in WinZip.

Note: The following information is taken from theWinZip help files. To access the help files from within WinZip,from the Help menu, select Contents, orpress F1.

On this page:

The Extract dialog box

In WinZip, open the archive. To display the Extractdialog box, click Extract on the toolbar, or, fromthe Actions menu, select Extract. Use theExtract dialog box to extract or unzip files from theopen archive to your disk.

WinZip extracts files from the archive to the folder specified in the'Extract to:' field. How can i transfer my pictures from android to iphone. You can specify this folder in one of four waysfrom the Extract dialog box:

  • Select a folder and drive in the 'Folders/drives' area on theright side of the Extract dialog box.
  • Type a folder name in the 'Extract to:' field.
  • Click the arrow next to the 'Extract to:' field and select afolder from the list of folders you have used previously whenextracting files.
  • Click New Folder. to create a folder.

The Extract dialog box provides the following optionsfor handling the files you are extracting:

  • The Selected files radio button instructs WinZip toextract only files that are selected in the main WinZip window. Youcan use conventional file selection methods to choose files. Thisoption is disabled if no files are selected.
  • The All files radio button instructs WinZip to extractall files from the archive.
  • The Files radio button and text field allow you tospecify which files are extracted using filenames. Standard Windowswildcards are accepted, so you could use *.doc, for example,to extract all files ending in .doc.
  • The Overwrite existing files checkbox determines whetheryou are prompted before existing files are overwritten with files fromthe archive.
  • The Skip older files checkbox determines whether WinZipskips (does not extract) existing files when the file in the archiveis older than the file on disk.
  • The Use folder names checkbox determines whether WinZipwill use any folder names (also known as path names) that are storedin the archive. You will probably want to check this option for mostextract operations. If this option is checked, any folder names (andthus any file structure) in the archive will be retained when thefiles are extracted. If it's not checked, all files will be extractedto the same folder, regardless of any folder names in the archive.

For example, suppose the folder to which files are extracted isc:temp. If the Use folder names option ischecked, the file mydirfilename would be extracted tothe folder c:tempmydir. If the option is not checked,it would be extracted to the folder c:temp.

  • The New Folder. button activates the CreateFolder dialog box. You can extract files and create a folderwithout this dialog box. Simply type the name of the new folder in the'Extract to:' field of the Extract dialog box and clickExtract.

Note: You can change the default folder to whichfiles are extracted. From the Options menu, selectConfiguration. and select the Folders tab. Under'Extract folder', type the folder name you prefer into the 'Folder:'field and click OK.

The Drag and Drop Interface

You can drag and drop files from WinZip to other applications, MyComputer or Windows Explorer, the desktop, printers, andshortcuts. If you drop files onto a folder listed in My Computer orWindows Explorer, the files are extracted to that folder. If you dropfiles onto the desktop, the files are extracted to the desktop folder. If you drop files onto a printer, the files are printed. If you dropfiles onto an application or a shortcut, the files are extracted tothe temp folder before the files are passed to theapplication, and are removed when the archive is closed.

Note: Different applications handle dropped filesin different ways. For example, when you drop a file onto the WordPadapplication distributed as part of Windows, it will embed the file asan OLE object, but when you drop a file onto the Notepadapplication distributed as part of Windows, it will open the file. You may need to experiment with drag and drop to understand how eachapplication reacts to a file dropped on it.

You can also move or copy files from one archive to another byopening multiple copies of WinZip, one for each archive, and draggingfiles from one to the other.

In Explorer

To extract all files in a WinZip archive without leaving Explorer, use the right mouse button to drag and drop the archive from anExplorer window to any folder, and then choose Extract to fromthe context menu.
